SHC

• The SHC of a substance is how much energy is required to heat up 1kg of a substance by 1C
• SHC of water = 4200 J/kgC
• SHC experiment

  1. Ensure the container is fully insulated and has a tight fitted lid to minimise energy wastage
  2. Measure the initial temperature of the substance you are testing
  3. Turn on the heater and measure how long it takes for the substances temperature to increase by 1C
