Food security

• Food security is about everyone having access to enough safe food.
• Factors affecting Food Security

  • Changing diets in wealthier populations (eg. leads to overfishing)
  • New pests and pathogens (could cause famine)
  • Sustainability (eg. overfarming, causing the soil to become infertile)
  • Environmental change (eg. global warming or drought)
  • Cost of agricultural inputs (eg. use of chemicals = more expensive)
• As population increases, the amount of food produced must also increase, as we must feed more people.
• By 2050 its predicted that we will need to produce 60% more food than right now.
