the clash between the w/c identity and the habitus of higher education is is a barrier to success. This is partly due to social exclusion
Evans (2009) studied a group of 21 w/c girls from a south lodon comprehensive studying for their A levels
Evan found that they were reluctant to apply to elitie universities like oxbridge as it wasn't for people like them. this feeling stems from habitus which includes beliefs about what opportunities are really for them and if they'd fit in
the girls thinking becomes apart of their identity and leads w/c students to exclude themselves from elite universities
Like Archer and Ingram Evans found theat the girls had a strong attachment to their locality, only 4 out of 21 girls wanted to leave home for their studies
Reay et al (2005)
self exclusion from eleite universities narrows the options of w/c students and limits their success
