• bayani challenge is an annual gawad kalinga program that started in 2006
• Gawad kalinga launched the bayani challenge with the theme “walang iranian”. This event was done form April 9 to June 12
• gawad kalinga is just one of the many organizations that promote volunteerism
• golden rule: doing unto ithers you would have them do unto you
• involvement is an active term which correlates to being committed and engaged in an endeavor
• According to Dr. Alenxander Aston, founding director of the higher education research institute at UCLA, involvement refers to the investment of physical and psychological energy
• Austin articulated that involvement has both qualitative and quantitative features
• qualitative refers to the genuineness with which the work was approached
• the world volunteer was first recorded during the 1600s. It came from a military context, from Middle French, voluntair, which means a person who offers himself for military service
• volunteerism is a form of involvement. It requires time, effort, and the willingness to help in an activity or endeavor
• volunteering is deemed to be an act of kindness towards other people
• different types of volunteering: skill based volunteering, volunteering in developing countries, virtual volunteering, environmental volunteering, volunteering in calamities, and volunteering in schools
• service pertains to the giving of self to others by aiding and who are in need
• generosity denotes the giving of material or physical help to other people
