  • ”Probably armed, possibly not.” Juxtaposition- Shows the soldier’s guilt and moral conflict. The ambiguity haunts him, because he isn’t sure if the killing was justified.
  • “His bloody life in my bloody hands.” Repetition, Metaphor- Repetition of “bloody” shows emotional trauma and guilt. It hints that the speaker can’t wash away the memory.
  • “Tosses his guts back into his body.” Colloquial Language- Desensitisation to violence. The casual tone contrasts with the horrific image, showing how soldiers get used to brutality.
