  • “Our brains ache, in the merciless iced east winds that knive us…”. Personification, Sibilance, Metaphor- Nature is the real enemy here. The wind is personified as violent, and the sibilance mimics the hissing of the wind
  • “But nothing happens.” Repetition- Emphasises boredom, futility and the emotional numbness of war. This line keeps coming back like a hopeless thought in their heads.
