800 ad forward was the Renaissance era. This is where Charlemagne of France rose to power. This is also where The monastic cathedral started their plan to rise to power.
Universities were not made in the Renaissance era simply because knowledge was lost during the DarkAges.
But miraculously, the Monks of the Chruch was able to retrieve lost scrolls coming from the Greeks and Romans that now, they were able to start universities since they have now a basis of knowledge for higher learning.
When the Church was in control of knowledge, they combined Faith and Knowledge. The church placed its credibility by citing science and their faith together.
