P3 - density

Cards (2)

  • density of solid object:
    1. use scale to measure mass of object
    2. if it is regular solid, measure length, width and height using ruler and calculate volume by multiplying length, width and height
    3. for irregular solid, submerge in eureka can filled with water
    • water displaced by object transferred in measuring cylinder
    • record volume of water in measuring cylinder - this is volume of cylinder
    • multiply mass and volume to find density
  • density of liquid:
    1. place measuring cylinder on scale and zero the scale
    2. pour 10ml of liquid into measuring cylinder and record mass
    3. pour another 10ml into measuring cylinder and repeat until cylinder is full - record volume and mass each time
    4. for each measurement multiply volume and mass to find density
    5. find an average of all calculated densities by adding all densities and dividing by how many there were
