  • there are 3 strands of feminist theology
  • liberal strand = presents the patriarchal system as illogical, denying women the fundamental right to equality with men
  • biblical strand = looks at the idea of God as loving + caring - qualities associated with women. it also points to the importance of women within the life/teachings of Jesus
  • radical strand = has moved beyond Christianity; seeks to find ways to speak of God which will be gender inclusive
  • additional viewpoints:
    • rejectionist = the Bible promotes a male-dominated structure + masculine view; the Bible is outdated with ltitle relevance today
    • reformist = there is male dominance in Christianity but does not reject Christian tradition + instead calls for a greater emphasis on equality
    • loyalist = accepts the traditional picture of a woman's role + generally regards the traditional teachings of the Bible as authoritative
