  • "he created them; male and female" - God's nature contains both; changing gender is merely a case of emphasising one aspect of God's image over another
  • Paul's letter to Galatians: "you are all one in Christ Jesus" - gender identity has no importance
  • God created man as a whole - man was given the responsibility of choice about how to live their life
  • Jesus: "every woman who makes herself male will enter the kingdom of heaven" (from early text Gospel of Thomas) - however, opposes gender equality
• arguments against

  • God doesn't make mistakes: gave trans people their body
  • Early Church = strongly opposed to surgery which tampered with sex identity; men who had been castrated could not be ordained as priests
  • argument that all the passages against homosexuality can be used to oppose transgender issues
