Healthy Organs

Cards (80)

  • All living things are made up of cells.
  • Cells are the building blocks of tissues, organs, systems, and organisms.
  • The eight main organs are the Brain, Lungs, Liver, Large Intestine, Heart, Stomach, Kidneys, and Small Intestine.
  • The three parts of the brain are the Cerebrum, Cerebellum and Medulla
  • Cerebrum controls memory, personality, reasoning and inteligence
  • Cerebellum is the balance and muscular co-ordination
  • Medulla controls breathing rate and heart rate
  • The heart is a muscular pump
  • The heart pumps blood around the body
  • The atrium is the top part of the heart
  • In the heart the ventricle is the bottom part
  • Large intestine absorbs water from food waste
  • Heart pumps blood around body
  • Lungs control respiration (breathing)
  • Valves stop the blood from flowing backwards
  • There are three different types of blood vessels: arteries, veins, and capillaries
  • Arteries pump blood away from the heart
  • Blood from the arteries is rich in oxygen
  • Arteries do not have valves and they carry blood to the heart
  • Veins carry blood to the heart
  • Veins have oxygen pores
  • Veins have valves
  • Capillaries let gases pass from blood to surrounding cells
  • Blood carries important substances to and from our cells
  • Oxygen and food (like glucose) are carried to our cells by blood
  • Carbon dioxide and waste are carried away from our cells by blood
  • Water is carried around the body by blood
  • Plasma is a cell, yellow substance found in blood
  • Red Blood Cells (RBC) carry oxygen around the body
  • White blood cells help to fight infection by producing antibodies and eating bacteria
  • Platelets help the blood to clot and scab
  • Red blood cells are concave in shape, lack a nucleus, and cannot reproduce to maximize space for oxygen
  • Air travels down trachea into bronchioles which lead to alveoli where gas exchange takes place
  • Pancreas produces insulin to regulate sugar levels
  • Lungs are organs that take in air through nose or mouth
  • Kidneys filter out waste products from blood
  • Liver produces bile to digest fats
  • Blood carries oxygen, nutrients and hormones to cells
  • Small intestine digests food into nutrients
  • The heart has four chambers - two atria and two ventricles
