ACL Rupture Summary

• ACL rupture - Mechanism:

  • Rotation/valgus injury
  • Contact force into valgus
• ACL rupture - Diagnosis:

  • Presence of effusion
  • Positive Lachman’s and/or anterior drawer
  • MRI to confirm (+ x-ray to exclude fracture)
• ACL rupture - Management:

  • Conservative or surgical reconstruction depending on injury factors and patient preferences
