Judgement

• The Particular Judgement:

  • straight after death because everyone is judged personally and individually
  • righteous go to heaven, the unrighteous go to hell
• Final Judgement:

  • follows particular judgement
  • Christians separated from the non-Christians => signals the end of the age
  • Book of Life -> some may still be saved??
• Does God's judgement take place immediately after death or at the end of time:

  End of time

  • Ireaneaus didn't think it happened till the final day -> people are in a state of blissful happiness =>> saints and martyrs go through quicker
  • Before the final judgement, Christians are separated "I saw the dead great and small standing before the throne"

  Immediately

  • Particular judgement implies it will happen after death
  • Luke 23: 39-43 => "I assure you, today you will be with me in paradise" -> no punctuation in the Greek language
  • Luke 16: 19-31 => "The Rich man also died and was buried, and his soul went to the place of the dead"
