Antigone

• Antigone: daughter of Oedipus and Jocasta, the subject of a tragedy by Sophocles. She was sentenced to death for defying her uncle Creon, king of Thebes, but she took her own life before the sentence could be carried out, and Creon's son Haemon, who was engaged to her, killed himself over her body.
• The Chorus is made up of elders from the city of Thebes
• Creon is King of Thebes
• Haem is Creons son and fiancee to Antigone
• Ismene is Antigones sister
• Oedipus is Antigones father
• Jocasta is Antigones mother
• Tiresias is an old blind prophet who advises Oedipus on how to solve his problems
• The Chorus are the people of Thebes, they commentate throughout the play.
• Antigone believes that she must bury her brother Polynices because he was a hero and deserves respect even though he rebelled against his own family.
• Polynices was killed by Eteocles when he tried to take back the throne from him.
• Creon is King of Thebes, he has just taken over from Oedipus
• Creon thinks that it's important to obey the law and not break them as this will lead to chaos and destruction.
• Antigone is one of Oedipuses daughters, she defies her uncle Creon by burying Polynices body
• Creon is the king of Thebes, he has banned anyone from buring Polynices as punishment for trying to overthrow him.
• Eteocles is Creons son, he died fighting with Polynices.
• Oedipus is Creons father-in-law, he is exiled as punishment for killing Laios
