  • Interference: when 2 memories become confused/mixed up with each other, resulting in forgetting one or both pieces of the info.
  • Proactive interference is when old learning prevents the recall of new info. The older memories disrupt the recall of the newer memories.
  • Retroactive interference is when new learning prevents the recall of old info. Newer memories disrupt the recall of older memories.
  • Interference is more likely when the two lots of information are similar.
  • Interference is less likely to occur when there is a gap between instances of learning.
