  • NUMBER 0 - PRE (READING) STAGE: I WANT
    • "Pre" - before
    • NO READING takes place in this stage.
    • Takes effect when the child MANIFESTS DESIRE to learn language by UTTERING INCOMPREHENSIBLE WORDS.
  • NUMBER 1 - INITIAL STAGE: I START
    • Begins to acquire most basic skills of reading:
    • Recognize the different symbols that represent letters and sounds.
    • That when letters are combined they can be formed into words then phrases then sentences.
    • Can read, but AS IS.
  • NUMBER 2 - CONFIRMATION AND FLUENCY (C&F): I IMPROVE
    • Perfect the skill of Reading:
    • Proper Pronunciation, not as is.
    • Different sounds of letters in a word (e.g. silent letters)
    • Realization that something is to be learned.
  • NUMBER 3 - FOR LEARNING THE NEW: I ACQUIRE
    • Not for PRACTICE, but to learn NEW INFORMATION.
    • Practice is done in lower stages.
  • NUMBER 4 - MULTIPLE VIEWPOINT: I EXPLORE
    • Validated or negated based on previous information acquired.
    • Validated by exploring - that there's a possibility of different versions of the information gained.
    • Several perspectives depending on who wrote it.
  • NUMBER 5 - CONSTRUCTION AND RECONSTRUCTION: I DECIDE
    • Reader is expected to make an INFORMED DECISION and SOUND JUDGEMENT - use of critical thinking.
    • We only acknowledge opinions of authors in the last stages, but here we come up with our own evaluation and understanding of the information acquired.
    • Can transform story into a poem, compose song based on experiences- highest level/form of reading.
