  • devolution is a movement from a group in a region, that wants power from the central government, to themselves, because they want to separate.
  • causes of devolution: differences in religion & languange (culture), poverty or famine (unequal development), irregular borders/shape of the country

    Yugoslavia (managed to separate) & Spain (didn't separate)
  • yugoslavia doesn't exist anymore, it balkanized
  • catalonia and basque tried to separate/devolutionize
  • the soviet union contained 32 countires which all separated, they all hated the idea of communism & they balkanized
  • supranationalism is a positive force/centripetal
  • neoliberalism - the promotion of free market/trade & the privitization of businesses, meaning the government cannot control the businesses

  • supranationalism is the opposite of devolution. many states/places come together to solve a situation and to share power
