  • CFC 387 tells us that God created human beings out of His divine goodness and love, to share His goodness with others, not because of any need or imperfection. He created us so we can experience His love and goodness. This means that God is a loving God and that He is good.
  • The main requirement of the Church in the Sacrament of Marriage is that both spouses love each other. Because of this love for each other, the husband and wife are given the right and privilege to procreate.
  • Since human beings are created because of love, humans are by nature loving persons. If we do evil, then we act contrary to our nature. This means that the only way for us to be truly human is to be loving persons.

  • What does being created in the image and likeness of God mean?
    It means that God gave the human person a spiritual and immortal soul, intellect (understanding), freedom, and free will—destining him for eternal beautitude.
  • Intellect
    God gave humans the ability to think and understand.
  • Freedom is a state of self-determination, not concerned in choice of action.
  • Free will is the ability to choose.
  • Because of freedom and free will, humans can choose between good and evil.
  • Through the soul, the human person is the image of God, since God is Spirit and the soul is spiritual.
