Synagogue

• Synagogues is a place of worship, study and study
• A minyan is a group of 10 adults that are required for a service
• In an orthodox synagogue, there is a male rabbi, men and women can't sit together and the service is in Hebrew
• In a reform synagogue, men and women can sit together, the rabbi can be a women and the service can be in english
• Bimah is the platform where people read the torah
• The ark or aaron hakadesh is where the torah is kept
• the ner tamid is the ever burning light which symbolises God's presence which is known as shekinah
• You can see a star of david in the synagogue
• Synagogue can also be called shul
• In exodus 20 it says that thou shall not worship idols therefore there aren't any images in the synagogue
• Jews cover their heads as it is a sign of respect for and fear of God and it also symbolises that God is above them
