Places are forced to change over time due to their relationships and connections with people and other places
Consider the economic rise and fall of Britishindustrial cities and the impact this has on population and the environment
British seaside resorts have also undergone change over the last 50 years due to the increasingly popularity of holidaying abroad
Conflict can also change such as terrorism (9/11), industrial accidents (Chernobyl) and natural disasters
Conflict may arise when people resist change - E.g. Notting Hill - when Notting Hill was gentrified in 2012 it is now home to London’s wealthiest residents whereas in 1899 it was one of the biggest slums in London.
Regeneration:
Improving and investing in an area. This may include demolishing places and building new places. The use of a place may change.
Rebranding
Giving a new image to part of the city to attract people back to the area. E.g. Leeds Dock - South Bank, Leeds
Art - E.g. Spring Morning by Geoffrey Smith (Tadcaster Bridge)
Things can be over exaggerated to make a place look better or worse
Can only show one point in time. E.g. weather changes area has changed over time
