  • Why shouldn't you take naproxen & ibuprofen together?
    Both NSAIDs -> inhibit COX -> interfere with prostaglandin production
    Prostaglandins are involved in platelet aggregation, gastric mucous secretion & renal blood flow -> can develop gastric ulcers

    Long-term -> prevent thrombus recurrence
  • What is the management of DVT/PE?
    ABCDE approach
    Confirmed DVT/PE -> LMWH
    Anticoagulation (if strong risk factor identified = 3 months, if ongoing RF or cannot identify RF = extended treatment)
  • What are IVC filters?
    Implantable devices recommended to pts with cannot have anticoagulants OR those with recurrent thromboembolisms w/drug therapy
