  • A borderline value for Sweat Chloride is between 50-60mmol/L.
  • Sweat is used to diagnose cystic fibrosis.
  • Signs and symptoms of cystic fibrosis include bulky offensive greasy stools, noticeably salty sweat, frequent respiratory infections and chronic cough, malnutrition, and male infertility (obstructive azoospermia).
  • Methods used to test for cystic fibrosis include the Cotlove chloridometer, microtitration with Mercuric Nitrate, CF Analyzer, and Chloride electrode method.
