Lenses and Imaging

Cards (5)

  • Concave lenses cave inwards, and cause parallel rays of light to diverge (spread out).
  • Convex lenses are shaped like ovals, and causes parallel rays of light to converge (move together)
  • There are 2 types of images:
    • Real image - where light from an object comes together to form an image on a 'screen'
    • Virtual image - when the rays are diverging, so the light appears to have come from an initial point
  • Ray diagram: Concave lens
    • produces a virtual image
  • Ray diagram: Convex lens
    • produces a real image
