Text features refer to the parts of a non-fiction text which are not included in the main body.
Text features are used to help the reader navigate through the text and efficiently locate information.
Glossary: it is an alphabetical list of terms with their definitions. It is found at the end of the reference material.
Index: This is an alphabetical list of words with their corresponding page number, also found at the end of the reference material.
Table of contents: This is a list of the book's chapters, units, lessons, and the corresponding page number. This table is found at the beginning of the reference material.
Heading: This is the title of the lesson or chapter found at the head of the page. It is usually bigger than the rest of the words in the page.
Bulleted list: This is used to list items or concepts in a page.
Subheading: This is the title of a specific passage that helps the readers to identify the topic of the text.
Specialprint: these are words that are printed in bold face or italics that helps the readers to find key words or important phrases.
Caption: this is a phrase or sentence that describes an illustration in a page.
Graphicfeatures are images and pictures that present information visually. They work alongside a text to enhance the meaning for the reader. Graphic features are usually used in textbooks and other forms of non-fiction, which provide a huge amount of information.
Photo: This is a picture of a subject taken with a camera.
Map: This is a graphical representation of the physical features of a country or a city.
Context clues are words or phrases within a text that can help define a difficult word.
Definition or Restatement: The word is given the precise meaning signaled by a dash or a comma, sometimes the meaning is given in the next sentence as well
Synonyms: The sentence contains another word with a similar meaning to the vocabulary word
Antonyms: The word is given a contrasting word in the sentence or proceeding sentence.
Example: The word is given an example in the sentence or proceeding sentence
Impromptu speech is a type of speech delivery in which there needs to be more preparation.
Extemporaneous speech is another type of speech delivery that is well-rehearsed and prepared but needs to be memorized.
