• Diagnosis can be based on either:

  • tissue based
  • body region
  • pathology based
• Pathology based diagnosis:

  • Structural or functional changes in the body caused by disease or trauma
  • Not always possible to confirm with clinical examination
  • Can help with management and improve estimation of prognosis
  • Pathology can be asymptomatic and may not correlate with activity and participation restrictions
  • Not a good outcome measure
  • Over focus can lead to errors in clinical reasoning
  • Clinical guidelines are effective
