Methods of studying cells

  • The equation for magnification is as followers:
Magnification = Size of image/Size of real object
  • The magnification of an object is how many times bigger the image is when compared to the object.
  • Resolution is the minimum distance apart that two objects can be in order for them to appear as separate items.
  • The process of cell fractionation is as follows:
    1. Tissue is cut up and kept in a cold, buffered solution.
    2. Cut up tissue is further broken up in a homogeniser.
    3. Homogenised tissue is spun in a ultracentrifuge at a low speed for 10 minutes.
    4. The result of being spun at a slow speed is a supernatent and a sediment.
