Anaerobic respiration happens when there is not enough oxygen for aerobic respiration.
glucose→lactic acid
anaerobic respiration happens in the cytoplasm of cells, mostly muscle cells
lactic acid produced in anaerobic respiration causes muscle cramp
anaerobic respiration transfers less energy per glucose molecule than aerobic respiration
when you exercise you breathe heavily. the extra oxygen you inhale breaks down the lactic acid. the oxygen needed for this is called oxygen debt.
fermentation is when some plants and microorganisms produce ethanol and carbon dioxide instead of lactic acid. its a type of anaerobic respiration as they respire without oxygen
fermentation:
glucose→ethanol + carbon dioxide
C6H1206 —> CH3CHOH + CO2
Enzymes in yeast speed up fermentation, making the reaction faster. it works best in a warm enviroment
HOW DO YOU MAKE BREAD?
Flour, water and yeast are mixed
The dough rises in a warm place
Yeast changes the sugars (in flour) into ethanol and carbon dioxide
