look down the eyepiece and move the stage downwards until the specimen is just about in focus

still looking down the eyepiece, adjust the focus with the fine adjustment knob until you get a clear image of the specimen
if you need to see your specimen with greater magnification what should you do?
swap

higher
powered

refocus
negatives
of
high
magnification
if your
specimen
is
relatively
big
you
might
not
be
able
to
see
the
whole
thing
it can be
difficult
to
focus
