  • Opposition
    Opposition from the young:
the nazis controlled the activities of the young through their school curriculums, hitler youth, & league of german maidens. however, some youth opposed them & their ideas. the swing youth were teenagers from wealthy backgrounds that would listen to swing music which was illegally imported from the US. groups of teens would often get together to listen to the music, dance, & smoke. punishments for those caught included forced labour & beatings. the edelweiss pirates were working class teenagers who opposed hitler's military lifestyle by wearing white socks or checked shirts (very different from hitler youth uniform).
  • Opposition from the church
despite the tight control of religion in germany, there was opposition. the pastors' emergency league was set up in 1933, arguing against the creation of the reich church. the league also set up the confessing church as a rival, which led to 800 pastors being arrested. niemoller, who had previously supported the nazis, founded the pastors' emergency league because he disliked the nazi interference with the church. he was arrested multiple times until being imprisoned in a concentration camp in 1938.
