  • Segment of the global slave trade that transported between 10 million and 12 million enslaved Africans acoss the Atlantic ocean to the Americas from the 16th to 19th century.
  • Part of a system known as the Triangular Trade.
  • First leg of the 3 part journey, Europeans ships brought manufactured goods, weapons, textiles even liquor to africa in exchange for slaves.
  • On the second, they transpoted Africans men, woman and children to the Americas to serve as slaves.
  • On the third leg, they exported to Europe the sugar, cotton and tobacco produced by the enslaved labour forces.
