Segment of the global slave trade that transported between 10 million and 12 million enslaved Africans acoss the Atlantic ocean to the Americas from the 16th to 19th century.
Part of a system known as the Triangular Trade.
First leg of the 3 part journey, Europeans ships brought manufactured goods, weapons, textiles even liquor to africa in exchange for slaves.
On the second, they transpoted Africans men, woman and children to the Americas to serve as slaves.
On the third leg, they exported to Europe the sugar, cotton and tobacco produced by the enslaved labour forces.
