  • Human Rights Act 1998
    Everyone has the right to freedom of thought, conscience, religion, dignity, fairness, equality, respect, independence
    Would have been repealed /replaced by the Bill of Rights 2022
    Ensured equality of rights no matter social status or other characteristics

    Allows public access to information held by public authorities
  • Equality Act 2010
    Legally protects people from discrimination in the workplace and wider society
    Streamlined many legal definitions - some areas were broadened and improved the level of protection
  • Protection of Freedom Act 2012
    Enabled the government to issue a code of practice as guidance which will further regulate surveillance camera systems
    Allowed the use of DNA and fingerprint security
    Legislation was not put in place straight away, it established a National DNA Strategy Board which made identification easier
  • Data Protection Act 2018
    Rights include to know what information is held about them the right to access that information
    Granted greater data privacy rights to individuals and placed tougher obligations on organisations that hold client data
