  • INTRO
    Name - A.P.J Abdul Kalam
    Birthday - 15 October (1931-2015)
    Birthplace - Rameswaram, Chennai(Madras) Tamil Nadu


    One of the finest scientists and was also the eleventh President of India.
  • UPBRINGING
    1. He was born as the second son to Jainulabdeen (father) and Ashiamma(mother) on 15th October 1931
    2. Kalam was born in the town of Rameshwaram in Madras (now known as Chennai)
    3. Kalam inherited qualities of honesty, self-discipline, and faith in goodness and kindness from his parents
  • WORLD WAR 2
    1. When WW2 broke out, India, being a part of the British Empire, was forced to join the war.
    2. During the Second World War, there was a demand for tamarind seeds, and Kalam collected and sold them.
    3. Newspapers from other parts of the state were thrown out of moving trains due to the war, and Kalam helped catch these bundles
    4. His cousin, Samsuddin helped him earn his first wages.
  • CHILDHOOD
    1. Kalam had three close friends: Ramanadhar Shastri, Aravindham, and Shiva Prakasan.
    2. Kalam grew up listening to stories from the life of the Prophet and the Ramayana, reflecting the secular nature of his upbringings.
  • SCHOOL
    1. Kalam faced communal injustice when a teacher made him sit at the back of the class for sitting next to a Hindu boy.
    2. Kalam's science teacher, Shiva Subramanya, had a modern outlook and tried to mix people from different backgrounds.
    3. Shiva Subramanya's wife initially refused to let Kalam enter her kitchen, but later served him food after her husband's influence.
  • LIFE
    1. Kalam's friends all grew up to do different things.
    2. Ramanadha Sastry took over the priesthood like his father Pakshi Lakshmana Sastry of the Rameswaram temple.
    3. Aravindan went into the business of arranging transport for visiting pilgrims.
    4. And Sivaprakasan became a catering contractor for the Southern Railways.
    5. Kalam decided to pursue his higher education in Ramanathapuram as India was moving towards freedom from British rule under Gandhi's leadership
