• CHILDHOOD

  • Maria had to leave for Florida when she was barely 10, with her father (Yuri), leaving her mother(Yelena) back in Serbia due to some visa restrictions. She was separated from her mother for 2 years.
  • Her father used to work late to pay for her tennis training.
  • In training, She used to go to bed by 8 pm and when the older pupils would return, they'd wake her up and make her clean the dorms at 11 pm.
  • But she was mentally strong, and she never thought of quitting. She knew what she wanted and she was determined to get it.
• ACHIEVEMENTS

  • She grew up to be strong and determined. She says, "When you come from nothing and you have nothing, then it makes you very determined"
  • She won in the women's singles at Wimbledon in 2004
  • She became the top women's tennis player in 2005.
  • She says that she'd play for Russia in the Olympics if they'd have them.

  • Maria, like most teenagers, loved fashion, singing and dancing as her hobbies.
