The Immune System

Cards (3)

  • Antitoxins - neutralise toxins produced by bacteria that can damage tissues and cells.
  • Phagocytosis - a white blood cell finds the pathogen and engulfs it by changing shape.
The white blood cell ingests and digests the pathogen, destroying it.
  • Antibodies - proteins produced by white blood cells when they recognise foreign antigens on the surface of pathogens.
They are specific to particular pathogens.
