Procedure

• 75 American boys
• At beginning of research between 10-16 and at the 22 - 28
• Additional samples from other countries interviewed but figures unknown
• Longitudinal study following the 75 boys for 12 years
• Interviews to assess moral reasonings producing qualitative data
• Kohlberg created 9 hypothetical dilemmas presenting moral conflicts
• Each participant was asked 3 of the dilemmas prompted by 10 questions

  Heinz dilemma: Wife dying cant afford drug, should he steal it

  ”Should Heinz have stolen the drug?
• Re-interviewed every 3 years
