  • live model - people present in our surroundings (parents)
  • symbolic model - people you see in the media
  • choosing a role model is cognitive
  • identification - individual adopting an attitude in line with their role model
• bobo doll experiment - bandura

  • children watched adult be aggressive towards doll - punching, throwing, hitting with hammer
  • when children were left in playroom they imitated the same acts of aggression (compared with control group who hadnt seen the model and showed none of these behaviours)
  • 2 years later used similar experiment but showed consequences for models aggression towards children (one group rewarded for aggression, other punished, other no consequences)
  • kids who saw model punished showed less aggression than other groups (expected negative consequences)
  • if all were offered rewards all showed high imitation levels
