  • strict liability- offences where mens rea is not required in respect of at least one aspect of the mens rea.
  • requirements of actus reus:
    it must be proven that D has the relevant actus reus. However, in rare cases defendants have been found guilty without doing the actus reus voluntarily- absolute liability cases.
  • Absolute liability: R V Larsonneur
    means that no mens rea at all is required for the offence nor does the actus reus have to be voluntary. Involves 'status offences' where the actus reus is a state of affairs.
