  • Some army leaders were concerned with the influence of the SA. The Night of the Long Knives persuaded them that Hitler could be trusted
  • Some senior officers, such as generals Blomberg and Fritsch were skeptical of the Hossbach Conference in 1937 as they felt Germany was not ready to start a war. They were both forced to resign
  • In 1938, General Beck opposed Hitler's plans to invade Czechoslovakia. After he resigned, he plotted to overthrow Hitler and was involved in two unsuccessful bomb plots
  • The Stauffenberg bomb plot was the most famous example of resistance to the Nazi regime
