  • Whilst demand for newspapers increased during the war, paper shortages meant that the Nazis closed almost 1,500 newspapers between 1939 and 1944
  • Goebbels ordered that radio stations and theatre companies should reflect the grave circumstances of war. Therefore, radio stations played somber music and theatres cancelled comedies
  • In 1940 there was a complete ban on nudity on stage and an almost total ban on performances of British, French, Russian, Polish and Jewish composers
