1.1.2 - Animal and Plant Cells

Cards (10)

  • 5 Subcellular structures found within an animal cell.
Nucleus, mitochondria, cell membrane, cytoplasm, ribosomes.
  • 3 Subcellular structures found only in a plant cell.
Chloroplasts, permanent vacuole, rigid cell wall.
  • Mitochondria?
Where aerobic respiration occurs: this transfers energy that the cell needs to work.
  • Ribosomes?
    Protein synthesis, to make protein.
  • Nucleus?
Controls activities of the cell: also contains genetics information (DNA)
  • Cytoplasm?
Gel-like substance where chemical reactions occur; contains an enzyme which controls these reactions.
  • Cell membrane?

Holds the cell together; controls what goes in and out of the cell.
  • Chloroplasts?
Green substance that contains chlorophyll which absorbs light; allows photosynthesis to occur.
  • Permanent Vacuole?
Contains cell sap, a weak sugar and salt solution.
  • Cell wall?
Only in plant cells; made of cellulose, supports and strengthens the cell.
