  1. Blood contains lots of carbon dioxide and little oxygen
  2. oxygen diffuses out of alveolus into blood and carbon dioxide diffuses out of blood into alveolus
  3. oxygen released from red blood cells and diffuses into body cells
  4. carbon dioxide diffuses out of body cells into blood and is carried back to lungs.
