  • Messages are a collector of symbols that appear purposely organized (meaningful) to those sending or receiving them
  • Types of Communication:
    • Interpersonal Communication involves two to three individuals interacting through the use of voices and bodies
    • Mediated Interpersonal Communication: technology stands between the parties communicating and becomes the channel for the message
    • Small Group Communication involves 3 or more persons
    • Organizational Communication: people communicate differently in a working environment
    • Public Communication involves one person communicating to a large number of people

    • Source: where the message comes from
    • Encoding: translating a message for transmission
    • Transmitting: the act of sending the message
    • Channels: technologies enabling sending or transmitting
    • Decoding: receiver translating the source's thoughts and ideas
    • Receiver: the one who gets the message
    • Feedback: the response generated by the message sent to the receiver
    • Noise Interference: something that interferes in the transmission process

    • Traditional Media includes mass media like newspapers, radio, and television

  • Information refers to the message conveyed by a sender to its recipient through various channels
  • Information is not always in text form and can include video, sound, graphics, animations, and images
