Weimer constitution

• all men and women over 21 could vote - voted for President and what party they wanted
• the leader of the party with the most votes would be asked to be Chancellor and would lead the Reichstag
• the President could dismiss the Reichstag when they wished and could call new elections and assume control of the army if he thought the Chancellor was abusing their power
• every 7 years voters could elect a new President
• An idea could oly become a law if majority of the Reichstag voted it
• the voting system of proportional representation meant that many small parties won seats in the Reichstag and could form coalition governments
• extreme left and right wing parties opposed to the constitution and democracy - wanted to replace the constitution with something else
• Democratic - ordinary people have a say
• Chancellor - prime minister
• checks and balance - stop one person having too much power
• proportional representation - you get the amount of seats based on your percentage of vote
• coalition government
