Baddeley1966- gave pps 4 word lists, acoustically similar/dissimilar, (sound), semantically similar/dissimilar, (eg meaning)
words were presented one at a time, pps were then asked to recall the correct order of the words immediately and after 20 mins,
Findings- Baddeley concluded that pp STMs were focusing too much on how the words sounded which interfered with their ability to recall- immediate recall, equally after 20 mins, pps struggled to recall semantically similar words,
conclusions from baddeleys research with the recall of semantically or acoustically similar/dissimilar word lists- LTM prefers to code semantically, STM prefers to code acoustically
