Medications commonly used for musculoskeletal disorders

    • Antibiotics: drugs used to prevent or stop bacterial infections- Ampicillin, amoxicillin, ciprofloxacin, doxycycline, erythromycin, penicillin, or tetracycline.
    • Anti-inflammatories: reduces inflammation- Hydrocortisone, beclomethasone, or amcinonide (steroids) acetaminophen, aspirin, ibuprofen, meloxicam (nonsteroidal).
    • Antipyretics/Analgesics: reduces fever and pain- Acetaminophen, aspirin, ibuprofen, naproxen, or some narcotic analgesics if necessary such as morphine sulfate or oxycodone.
    • Antirheumatics: prevents some rheumatic conditions and symptoms- Adalimumab, celecoxib, glucosamine, ibuprofen, indomethacin, infliximab, ocilizumab, or tocilizumab.  
    • Bone resorption inhibitors: prevents bone loss- Alendronate, etidronic acid, denosumab, ibandronate, raloxifene, risedronate, or zoledronic acid. 
    • Vitamins/Minerals: supplements used to support or replace low levels- Calcium and vitamin D (especially D3); these may be prescribed individually or in combination with other vitamins and minerals. 
    • Muscle relaxants and antispasmodics: alleviates pain and stiffness- Carisoprodol, chlorzoxazone, cyclobenzaprine, diazepam, metaxalone, or orphenadrine.
