  • Green paper – information gathering (e.g. feedback/reform for a pre-existing law or expert advice)
  • White paper – the findings/proposed idea 
  • Bill – a proposed law
  • Public bill – a suggested law that is introduced into parliament and will affect all/majority of the public 
  • Private member’s bill – introduced by any MP/member of House of Lords e.g. Abortion Act 1967
  • For a Private Member’s Bill: 
    Ballot – 20 MPs are randomly selected to present their bill but realistically only the first 6/7 will get heard 
  • For a Private Member’s Bill: 
    Ten minute rule – any MP can make a speech for up to 10 minutes which could be used to introduce their bill 
  • Private bill – a bill that effects only a small amount of people
