The law commission
◦ A permanent body set up to advise the
government
in
simplifying
the law to be more
cost
effective and easier to understand.
Made up of legal professionals with law experience and formed in 1965 to replace many
small
councils.
Topics can be referred by
government
or the law commission may identify areas
themselves.

research
on the topic and publish a
consultation paper
2. The consultation paper suggests options for
reform
and seeks suggestions from experts
3. The proposal is published often alongside a
draft bill
for parliament.
