    Advertising is a powerful medium. It persuades the customers to buy a service or a good by describing its good points which are mostly exagerated. It uses mass promotion concept in which a single message is passed to a large no of people. The messages are conveyed through mediums like radio,tv,newspaper,boarding,walls of cinema halls etc.

    The brands pay a huge amount of money to brand ambassadors to create brand loyality. The brand ambassadors charge money based on their popularity. The people especially the youth identify the brand ambassadors as well as the brand and want to posses the product of the brand.

    There is an another type of advertisements which has carved a important role in peoples mind which is social advertising. In which principles of marketing and advertising is used to promote social health issues. It aims to change the attitude and behaviour of people by bringing a positive change like campaigns of Polio drops,ORS etc.

    Advertising through tv's enable us to buy luxuries which couldn't before . Media also gets its revenue from ads. It generates its revenue by providing a communication platform for the ads before any other information or entertainment programme.

    Advertisements force some consumers to buy the good they dont even need which leads to a wasteful expenditure. Quack or false advertisements has also misguided the consumer by making making false promises. Strict rules need to be taken to avoid these false promises like instant height increase,weight loss etc.
  • HOW DOES ADS CREATE DISCRIMINATION?
    Advertisements have strengthen the democracy of our country. In a democratic country, every person is free to advertise his/her brand by spending huge loads of money. But every person like the sweet/samosa seller cannot afford these expenditures. They rely on the word of mouth publicity. But the availability of branded and highly packaged items made the consumers believe that their products are better than non-branded items.eg porridge sold with brand is considered than the porridge sold non-branded
  • HOW DOES ADS CREATE A DISCRIMINATION BY STREREOTYPE ATTITUDES ?
    Advertisements also creates disadvantages in society as it engrains stereotype attitude. For eg- The whole family is shown sitting and eating food except the mother as she is in the kitchen. Man are shown buying cars and computer on the other hand. Women is shown buying groceries. This creates discrimination, a women may know more about computer than a man, whereas a man may know more about cooking more than a women! This creates a discrimination among the society which is against the basic rules of democracy.
  • HOW ADS CREATE DISCRIMINATION BASED ON DEMOCRACY ?
    Many people can't afford luxury items. They start to feel that they are incapable of providing their children sufficient opportunities. Maybe they can't afford luxury items and hence they start to devolope the feeling of inability. This creates a discrimination between rich and poor which is against basic laws of democracy where everyone should be treated equally.

    A consumer is a person who pays for the price of services or goods. Back in the good olden days , there was a strong relationship between the consumer and seller. The seller exhibited his goods; buyer examined the goods before buying. The buyer was treated respectfully.
