  • How was the political system?
    This system was influenced by existing political structures that facilitated the growth of the Islamic empire and the flourishing of the Islamic Golden Age.
    And it was an interpretation as a source of identity and political action.
  • How was the economy in Islam?
    Islamic economics aim for moral development, circulation of wealth and providing basic human needs. The rich amass all the wealth while the poor are left with nothing.
  • What were some historical events?
    1. The Islam kingdom was created in the 7th by the hand of Mahoma in Meca (Arabia Saudí)
    2. After Mahoma's death in 632, Islam spread throught holy war.
    3. Members of Mahoma's family ruled the Empire. However, there was a great dispute over the fourth caliph, Ali. In 661, Ali was assasinated.
  • How was the origin of islam?
    The prophet Muhammad in the 7th century unified the Arabian Peninsula under a new faith, Islam, their expansion was really fast and it was divided:
    Orthodox Caliphate (632-661): The caliphate was ruled by Muhammad’s family.
    Omeya Caliphate (661-750): The Omeya family took over the Caliphate and moved the capital to Damascus.
    Abbasid Caliphate (750-1258): the Omeyas were killed and the Abbasid family moved the capital to Baghdad. They were eventually conquered by the Turks, and the Caliphate slowly disintegrated.
  • Some cultural events
    Islamic culture is impregnated with religiosity. This mentality is reflected in the artistic expression, as well as the influence that the Quran, the sacred book of Islam.
  • How were the scientific developments?
    Scientific knowledge flourished during the Islamic Empire because of their situation between Asia and Europe. Many advances were made, such as:
    Astronomy: they draw detailed maps of the stars.
    Maths: introduction of the number zero and the Arabic numerals.
    Medicine: the best physicians were either Muslims or Jews.
    They also introduced silk and paper thanks to the trade with China.
  • How was the society?
    • The society required by Islam was made up of people who can take advantage of a meeting for God, love for God or help for God.
    •In seven and eight century it was characterized by significant political, social, economic, militar and cultural developments.
  • How was the society? (2)
    The Empire was ruled by the caliph (successor of the messenger of God). The caliph has political, military and religious power. He was assisted by ministers, judges, provincial governors and a governor with military authority.
    Society was divided into different groups depending on their economic status, but also ethnicities, religion (Jewish and Christians were called Dhimmis and allowed to practise their religion) was important.
  • Islamic faith
    The sacred book of Islam is the Quran, and it establishes the five most important rules:
    Faith: each Muslim must express publicly that “there is no god but Allah, and Muhammad is his prophet”.
    Pray: five times a day.
    Pilgrimage: to Mecca at least once during their lifetime.
    Fasting: during the month of Ramadan.
    Charity: give alms to the poor.
