blood vessels organised into a continuous circulatory system
heart:
artery
2. vein
3. leftatrium
4. vulves
5. left ventricle
humans have a double circulatory system because blood flows through the heart twice each circuit of the body
One loop carries blood from the heart to the lungs and back again to collect oxygen
-
artery
function:
carries blood away from the heart = high pressure
adaptations:
can stretch and recoil
capillary: (stretched out and small)
function: link the arteries to the veins
adaptations: one cell thick and a short diffusion difference
vein: bigger inside thingy
function: carry blood in the heart
adaptation: valves stop blood from flowing back the way it came- low pressure
one loop (left) carries deoxygenated blood FROM the heart to the lungs, gains oxygen and flows back to the heart
loop 2 ( right red) carries oxygenated blood to the rest of the body, and then gives the oxygen to the tissues becoming deoxygenated and then flows back to the heart to start over again
